“We will hold Turkish fascism accountable for every attempt of invasion”

Statement of the YPJ General Command regarding the assassination of YPJ commander Jînda Cudi.

“We will hold Turkish fascism accountable for every attempt of invasion”

The Women’s Revolution in North-East Syria insists on developing and building democratic confederalism, women’s liberation and an ecological existence. For this reason, the Turkish fascist state continues with its atrocities against our peoples. The occupying force has especially targeted women at the forefront of this revolution, among others executing targeted assassinations against women revolutionaries from the leading ranks of YPJ.

On October 3rd the car of our YPJ commander and comrade Jînda Cudi was targeted by a Turkish armed drone on the road between Amûdê-Qamişlo. As a result her and our friend, SDF member Salih Xelil, have been martyred. It yet again shows the genocidal policy of the Turkish state against us. The resistance we are waging today is the resistance to lead an honorable life. We are a force of revenge and we will hold Turkish fascism to account for every occupation attempt.

Our friend Xezal Belge, known as Jînda Cudi, was born in 1985 in Şırnak, a city in the Botan region of occupied northern Kurdistan, into a family with a patriotic culture. In the history of Kurdistan’s freedom struggle, Botan has played an indispensable role. The people of Botan have always been in resistance against monarchs, Ottoman rule and the Republic of Turkey. This spirit of resistance of our people reached its peak in the 1990s, creating personalities such as Bêrivan (Binevş Agal). In the Botan region many heroes fought in the line of freedom and sacrificed themselves for the freedom of their people. This spirit of rebellion found its continuation in personalities such as Jînda Cudi. Comrade Jînda’s family participated in the organization of the armed struggle in 1989 during the formation of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement under the guidance of the remarkable Commander Mahsum Korkmaz (Şehid Egîd). Jînda’s participation in the movement reveals the reality of Kurdistan’s struggle for freedom, which until today is moving forward with freedom victoriously. With their relentless dedication to our freedom struggle, her family has taken and honorable place in our history. Her father, Yusif Belge, was martyred in 1998 while working in the Kurdistan Freedom Movement. Both of her brothers, Firas and Rizgar, have also joined the ranks of immortals.

Following in the footsteps of her family’s legacy, at the age of 14 Jînda herself began to participate in youth activities in Northern Kurdistan. In 2003 she joined the guerilla in the free mountains of Kurdistan. Being a staunch Apoist, she followed the call of Abdullah Öcalan and joined YPJ at the on-start of the Rojava revolution. Here she became one of the bravest women in the YPJ ranks and was at the forefront of rescue operations. Commander Jînda fought against ISIS militias in heavy battles such as Cezaa, Rabiaa, Mebruka, Til Koçer, Serêkaniyê, Şehit Rubar and Holê. In the most difficult times of the liberation war, Commander Jînda stood behind her militant duties as a fighting woman. She participated in all fronts of the resistance with her selfless, courageous and dedicated attitude to protect her homeland’s territory and build up democratic confederalism.

As YPJ, we send our condolences to the precious family of Commander Jînda Cudi, the rebellious people of Botan and all our patriotic peoples. We are the promise of our comrades and commanders that we will make their dreams and ideals of freedom succeed. The Rojava revolution is built on the legacy of commanders like Jînda Cudi and will continue its struggle to preserve the gains of the revolution.
